Do Dietitians Really Support Kraft Singles? UPDATE!

UPDATE (April 1, 2015)

After further consideration, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (the Academy) and Kraft decided to end their agreement and remove the Kids Eat logo from Kraft Singles (Nutrition Tuesday: Do Dietitians Really Support Kraft Singles?). According to a news story on Yahoo, both the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and Kraft experienced unexpected backlash. According to the Academy, the placing the logo on products was intended to promote awareness of nutrients like calcium and vitamin D as well as the existence of the Kids Eat Right program but was never intended to be a product endorsement. This, however, was unclear to Academy members and consumers. Thousands of outraged Academy members signed a petition calling for an end to the placement of logos on products. Recently, Kraft shares slightly dropped, although there are many possible reasons for that. According to the Nutrition and Dietetics President, Sonja Connor, MS, RDN, LD, FAND, Kraft Singles with the Kids Eat Right logo will appear on shelves starting April 1, 2015 but the Academy and Kraft are working to minimize how long those products are on store shelves.

Kids Eat Right (www.kidseatright.org) promotes healthy eating and is an excellent consumer resource. I hope you take a moment to check it out.
